NARHA promotes the benefit of the horse for individuals with and without physical, emotional and learning disabilities. For individuals with special needs, equine-assisted activities have been shown to improve muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination, motor development, as well as emotional well-being. Physical and occupational therapists, retained for consultation and evaluation, work with instructors and primary caregivers to develop individualized riding plans with educational, recreational and therapeutic goals.

Runs the Further Education through Horsemastership course which is an innovative way of improving basic and living skills for young people with learning difficulties.

Stepps believe that although someone may appear to present one addiction as their primary illness that invariably is not the case. Stepps look at the whole person, a multi-dimensional perspective, enabling us to identify specific treatment needs. Stepps are members of Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is an emerging field in which horses are used as a tool for emotional growth and learning. EAP is a collaborative effort between a licensed therapist and a horse professional. Because of its intensity and effectiveness, it is considered a short-term, or ‘brief’ approach.
